Internships have simply become a must for all the MBA students. Internship help students to understand their desired field better by working closely in the real corporate work environment. Internship adds value to the CV of the students & recruiters also prefer such candidate during final placement.

How do I get an internship?

But getting internship in a good company is not that easy. Many companies don’t offer any internship programme. Even if they accept some interns, the exercise remains restricted to just offering a certificate at the end of the duration. With the large number of MBA students & comparatively few numbers of quality internship opportunities, students need to consider few points before application

Step-I: Know what you want – Before applying for an internship you should be clear about your internship objective &  expectation out of it.

Step-II: Industry Goal – Start looking at industries of your choice & also explore what the industries are looking for in a prospective intern. Consult your faculty members about the pros & cons of a particular industry in terms of career opportunities, jobs, growth etc.

Step-III: Secondary Research – Internet research is a great source of internship tip-off. It is recommended for students to join professional website LinkedIn & follow companies of the choice. This keeps them connected with their favorite companies. Keep your profile updated. Include sample project work, active email IDs, and mobile number. Search recruiters & send them connection request but DONOT SPAM by sending bulk requests

Step-IV: Resume Matters – Resume is the first opportunity for the recruiter to access the credentials of the prospective intern. Hence, it should be properly drafted with clear mention of career objective, academics, achievements & volunteer experience. Include at least two references from your institute (preferably faculty). Avoid grammatical mistakes

Step-V: Social media activation – With the growing digital media ecosystem, recruiter prefer to explore the social media activities of the prospective interns in order to look at the thought process, liking, friends & connections. Ensure, your social profiles are visible to the recruiter during Google search.

Step-VI: Remain updated – It is recommended to remain updated with the happenings & developments around the industries / companies you are looking for internship. This will prepare you for face 2 face round of interview.
